University Heights Branch
The University Heights branch offers a diverse popular collection as well as materials related to local history and access to digital media, public meeting space, and public access computers. The branch receives a selection of Russian books and magazines every other month from the foreign language collection of the Cleveland Public Library. There is a Kulas Foundation Steinway piano available for program and community use as well.
The branch was built in 1952, and was last renovated in 1997. In 2000, the branch initiated an after-school center, giving the teens activities, computers and a place to congregate after school. In 2003, the Heights Libraries installed this program in all branches and renamed it “the Spot”. For many years, one of the branch’s signature programs was a popular classic movie series offered during the summers; this has evolved into a popular, year-round series of critically-acclaimed independent and foreign films.
The University Heights branch has a longstanding relationship with the City of University Heights’ Senior Services Office. Once a week, the “Senior Happenings” program presents speakers on topics ranging from health to the arts to philanthropy and current issues.
Children and families enjoy Story Stop (all ages) on Wednesday mornings, Toddling Time (children 3 and under with caregiver) on Friday mornings, and special programs for school-aged children.
