Escape Club Cleveland
Coventry Customer Spotlight: Meet Douglas Katz, Loyal Customer of Trapped! Escape Room
Coventry Village is just 1/4 mile and home to over 40 independently owned businesses. This holiday season, we’re shining the spotlight on some of the loyal customers that shop, dine and enjoy Coventry Village.
They’ve shared with us why (and where) they shop small, favorite mom and pop spots, gift ideas, holiday traditions and fun ways to spend winter in northeast Ohio. Thanks to all that support Coventry Village. It’s customers like YOU that help us build a neighborhood!
Loyal customer of Trapped! Escape Room
Q. Trapped! is Cleveland’s first fully-interactive and immersive group gaming experience. The location opened on Coventry this past July. How did you first learn about it?
A. I initially found it on social media and I also passed the space a few times.
Q. For our readers that aren’t familiar with the concept, can you describe how an escape room works?
A. Your group of friends is placed in a room or group of rooms with different themes. You have one hour to solve the logic puzzles that lead to your escape. It is a great team building exercise. It teaches the visitors how important teamwork and organization are when problem solving. You would think that a small group is best, but a larger group with great leadership might work even better.
Q. Was your group able to escape?
A. We attempted two different rooms. We have not been able to escape.
Q. Without giving away too much about the theme rooms, share a story about your Trapped! experience.
A. I loved the cell we did with kids and adults. It was necessary to have kids that could climb easily and fit into tight places.
Q. Trapped! is an independently owned business. Why is it important to shop, dine and enjoy local?
A. Local businesses are the heart of our communities. The people who own and operate these shops are the idea makers and hard workers. They make our neighborhoods special and unique. Without local businesses, our communities would be really boring and sad.
Q. How do you personally benefit when you support local businesses?
A. You get a great feeling connecting with others in your neighborhood. I have formed some of the most meaningful relationships this way. Doing this is really what community is about. As a small business owner, I want people to support me. How could I expect those in my community to do that if I don’t support them?
Q. Give a shout out to a few of your favorite places to shop local.
A. I love Vero Pizza, Marotta’s, The Wine Spot, Rising Star Coffee, Luna, Phoenix Coffee and Cafe Tandoor. I buy my wife gifts at Blush Boutique. I can’t wait for Cross Fit to open on Taylor too. I am sure I left many others out, that I love and support!
Q. Besides Trapped!, any other Coventry Village spots you enjoy?
I love Tommy’s, Big Fun, Mac’s Backs-Books, Pacific East and Piccadilly too. I live within walking distance of Coventry. I love being able to walk to these spots. I love seeing people and walking my dog in my neighborhood.
Q. What’s your favorite holiday tradition?
I love seeing the recycle art that Debbie Apple Presser makes for us at fire food and drink. I also like making latkes and applesauce with my family… and eating them, of course.
Q. Share with us some of your favorite winter activities.
I like to go to Ray’s bike park with my son. I love movies at Cedar Lee and Shaker Square. I also enjoy hibernating on a snowy holiday day in our 1904 Queen Anne Victorian.
Thanks to Douglas Katz for taking the time to share with us.
