Cleveland Park movie Theatre

Not every movie I want to see plays here, and they tend to pickup big blockbusters, but when something I want to see is here I try to make it to the Uptown to see it. It's a big screen, usually not too crowded, and really cheap tickets for shows before noon (not all movies have before noon showtimes though). There aren't many of this kind of theater around anymore. Gotta enjoy them while we can.

The Uptown is an old staple of cinema in D.C. It's the largest screen aside the IMAX. The balcony seating is absolutely splendid and it is almost never full (Great for the audience, maybe not Uptown). Their fair pricing for matinee showings is absolutely wonderful too. The staff is always pleasant, and the enormous screen, sound, and projected picture are generally good. MY FEEDBACK: Here's my one problem. Like many theaters, 3D films are shown no different than other films. It is SO DIM AND DARK with the 3D glasses on, that it actually ruins any 3D film's experience. I just saw the new Star Trek in 3D (regular was too late in the day) and 85% of the film is shot at night or in the dark. This means you almost can't see ANYTHING in its natural light while watching the 3D version. It makes for a miserable experience. I'd just like to suggest as a long time lover of Uptown if you have a way of updating technology for proper 3D viewing (so it's not dim and hard to see what's happening), it would be a tremendous help to filmmakers and those who love 3D cinema. Food for thought. Cheers!

This theater is a DC landmark. The atmosphere and the staff make it a great "movie house.." People have watched movies for several decades. I loved this place from the first time I watched a movie at the Uptown. Washingtonians are lucky that it has survived the DC's architectural destruction and re-purposing. This place has an excellent atmosphere and I have many great memories from the balcony. It is one of the most comfortable places in this city.

This is a really nice theatre with a pretty big screen. We saw Xmen in 3D and it was awesome. We did not try anything from the concessions. They do have private bathrooms so that is nice.

This is a DC mainstay for big movies. I've seen every Star Wars and LOTR movie here among many others. The screen is huge and the balcony seating is my preferred spot. I would love for them to redo the seats so they are more comfortable like many theatres are doing now. Just need to upgrade and more people will come here.

Fun atmosphere and unique experience without having to sacrifice anything about the view or quality of the film/movie

This is one of my favorite places to see movies in DC it could be hitter mess on the movie they are playing at the theater Sometimes it's a great movie and sometimes it's a terrible movie My favorite spot to set his front row in the balcony

I like this theater a lot. It has a bigger screen than most other theaters and a great sound system. The chairs are super comfy and it has a classic, upscale vibe. Parts have been revitalized to give it a more modern vibe while others remain largely untouched giving it a classic old Hollywood look and feel. The screen is also slightly curved which is a big plus. The downside is that they only have 1 screen so you are kind of limited in terms of options unless you have a super flexible schedule that day. Plus the seats, while super comfortable are not on enough of a slope so if you're short like I am you might have part of your vision obscured by the people in front of you. Overall I'd recommend it, especially to those only used to the big chain theaters in the area. It's a nice alternative and a different experience.

Saw Star Wars here today. Screen wasn't the proper brightness to accommodate the 3D glasses resulting in extremely poor detail of the film. The staff burned the popcorn at one of the concession stands so badly he entire theater filled with smoke at my showing, they had to open all the emergency exits to let it out. Miserable.

Great movie theatre. I saw mission impossible here opening weekend and it was pretty much empty so I imagine the place doesn't really get crowded. The screen is huge and the balcony makes for a great view. It only plays one movie though so as long as they are playing one you want to see, it'll be the choice of places in the area to see it.

This is a great historic theater. I love sitting on the balcony and getting a different perspective. I wish they had more theaters but this is part of the charm. The customer service is really good and they choose good movies. I love living near this theater.

Saw Interstellar here when it was out. LOVE this little movie theater. It is adorable. One huge screen, a huge theater of seats, all the basics with a lot more charm in the heart of Cleveland Park. I will see any movie that comes here if it's one I want to see. The seats could be more comfortable but the experience is much better than the of a typical movie theater. It's an especially fantastic place for anyone living in the Cleveland Park/Van Ness/Woodley Park areas!

This place is run down. The seats are falling apart. I have a sore back from sitting in them. Carpets are worn and dirty. Awful!
