DETROIT More than 1, 000 employees at Horseshoe Casino Cleveland overwhelmingly ratified a first contract yesterday.
The agreement provides the union members yearly increases for a 9.6 percent wage increase over the life of the five-year agreement, a strong arbitration process and experience pay that includes credit for prior experience on the job.
The Casino employees who voted to join the union in August 2012 are represented by the Cleveland Cincinnati Ohio Casino Workers Council (CCOCWC), a coalition of unions including the UAW, United Steelworkers, Teamsters and UNITE HERE.
The Cleveland Casino Council offers workers at Horseshoe Cleveland a solid coalition to navigate through the intricacies of a first contract, said UAW Region 2B Region Director Ken Lortz. The workers have won a comprehensive agreement with an arbitration process, and improvements in wages, benefits and working conditions. We look forward to working with Rock Ohio Caesars to create the best workplace environment for casino workers as they continue to deliver first-class service to Horseshoe Casino Cleveland customers.
As an entertainment company, we strive to provide an engaging work environment that enables our team members to have fun while earning a competitive wage and benefits package and providing world class service, said Karen Kaminski, Vice President of Human Resources at Horseshoe Casino Cleveland. Horseshoe Casino Cleveland worked diligently with the Council over the last 18 months to reach a fair agreement that benefits our team members and our guests and aligns with our Mission, Vision and Values.
The agreement also offers up to a $1, 000 bonus for full-time employees and up to $750 for those who work part-time. It also recognizes seniority rights and guarantees secured free parking for the life of the contract. Employees will also get their on-the-job meals at a reduced cost, an improved attendance policy, seniority shift and start time preference, and improved day off and workday “switching” language which enhances employees۪ quality of life in a bustling industry that works around the clock.
Horseshoe Cleveland was developed by Rock Gaming in partnership with Caesar’s Entertainment Inc. It opened on May 14, 2012 as the first casino in the state of Ohio.
The CCOCWC is also the exclusive recognized bargaining agent at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati, also owned by Rock Ohio Caesars. Contract negotiations will soon begin at Horseshoe Cincinnati, which opened March 4, 2013.
