About these ratings
These ratings are based on students' 2016 performance on end-of-year Smarter Balanced English and math tests and, for high schools, class of 2015 graduation rates. Level 5 is the top rating and generally indicates a school performed in the top 10 percent. Level 1 ratings signify the worst of the worst, generally in the bottom 5 percent. Level 2 ratings are also quite low, signifying test performance in the bottom 15 percent and graduation rates below 75 percent. Level 4 ratings are for average and above average test scores and for graduation rates above 78 percent. Level 3 is a middling ranking that extends to test performance as low at the 16th percentile. Growth ratings are based on how much progress a typical student made in reading or math since taking state tests in 2015 and 2014.
